Hello. My name is Louise Fish, and I have been in post as the TSA’s new Chief Executive since 5 June.
As many of you already know, the TSA is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and I am honoured to be the organisation’s second CEO. I am following in the influential footsteps of Dr Jane Spink, who has recently joined Genetic Alliance UK as their Chief Executive.
I have already learned a little of how the Tuberous Sclerosis Association has grown from a body founded and run by brave and pioneering volunteers 40 years ago, to the high impact professional charity with a four-year (2011 to 2015) investment of £1.5m into research, which it is today.
The TSA has had some amazing successes in improving research, care and support for individuals living with TSC over the past few years, and I am excited about working with everyone to build on them.
I’m looking forward to bringing my own passion and experience to the staff team, and for the past 17 years my working life has been dedicated to improving care for patients and their families. I have been a press and campaigns manager, and an acting chief executive, for a patients’ charity. Within the health system I have been a Director of Communications at NICE, and Director of Communications and Engagement at the NHS Confederation. And most recently, I have been working as a Senior Director at Tonic Life Communications where I have been advising organisations, ranging from small patient charities through to large pharmaceutical companies, on how to help patients access treatments for rare and genetic conditions.
My focus as Chief Executive will be to make sure that everything the TSA does supports the community’s vision of providing hope for today and a cure for tomorrow.
I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can in the coming months and years: staff, volunteers, trustees, the research committee, but most of all, the amazing TSC community. I want to understand the challenges that the TS community now faces, and your hopes, your fears and your dreams for the future
It will be my privilege to learn from you and work with you every step of the way. I can’t wait to lead the TSA on the next stage of its important and life-changing journey of the fight against TSC.
