During the coronavirus outbreak, the TSA has hosted a series of TSC-focused virtual sessions, allowing the TSC community to come together despite social isolation and shielding measures.
The TSA has been delighted with the enthusiasm and willingness of the TSC community to utilise video conferencing to connect with others, showing that you are truly never alone with a TSC diagnosis.
Below, you can catch-up on all of our sessions so far, with more sessions planned for very soon.
TAND and covid-19
The TSA were delighted to host a session on managing TSC-Associated Neuropsychiatric Disorders (TAND) during difficult circumstances, like the covid-19 outbreak.
The session featured Prof Petrus de Vries (Professor of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, University of Cape Town) and Prof Anna Jansen (Head of Child Neurology, UZ Brussels). Prof de Vries and Prof Jansen also discussed the TANDem project, a piece of research bringing together a worldwide team of families affected by TSC, researchers and clinicians to provide scientific evidence for greater TAND intervention and treatment.
TSC carer support (with Carers UK)
We welcomed Carers UK to the TSC community, in a Q&A all about the TSC carers community.
Matthew Jones (Helplines and Advice Manager, Carers UK) talked us through some key issues around caring that can be easily overlooked, especially at times of great upheaval like covid-19. Topics included how to access carer support, keeping in touch with loved ones in lockdown settings, carer fatigue and what support is out there for TSC carers.
Managing anxiety and stress (with Anxiety UK)
Dave Smithson (Operations Director, Anxiety UK) presented the TSC community with an overview of what exactly anxiety is and how we can learn to manage it.
Managing anxiety and stress is always important, but particularly during this time, for everyone in the TSC community and beyond. The session had a broad scope, including coping strategies and learning more about the work of Anxiety UK.
