Rebecca lives in Kent and is inspired to fundraise for the TSA by her young son Tommy, she is not alone as friends and family have welcomed the opportunity to fundraise alongside her and together they have made a huge fundraising impact.
What fundraising have you been up to and what has the response been?
My family and friends have been amazing to help raise money for the TSA and awareness about the condition. My friend Laura organised a Quiz and raffle night which raised £500 and her work matched this with another £500. My mum also did a staff xmas lunch for the staff at boots Bluewater which also raised £500 and was matched by boots.
I took my collection tin and cakes along to playgroups during tea and scones week. The cakes were kindly donated by Morrisons Gravesend and baby sensory also donated back Tommy’s fees for the term. My Auntie, who told me to take Tommy to the hospital when I sent her a video of Tommy having seizures, has also raised money and trained doctors and nurses at her hospital about infantile spasms.
What motivates you to do all of this?
My son Tommy has TSC, and I want to get the best information/ access to treatment possible for him. And I hope with further research that eventually they will find a cure one day!
Any advice for people who want to support the TSA but don’t know how to get started?
I started by getting my hair cut and had an amazing response and raised a staggering £935.00 by using Just giving! My cousin is now doing the same and has gone over her target of £100 within a few hours of setting up her page. The TSA fundraising team can always help with ideas and promotion.
