Room to Breathe
Garden designers Jen Donnelly, from Jen Donnelly Garden Design, and Catherine Gibbon, from Botanique Gardens, have created a very special garden called ‘Room to Breathe’. Their garden is in aid of the TSA and their design will come to life at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025. After the show, the garden will be relocated and repurposed to provide a restorative environment within a hospital courtyard, creating a sanctuary for patients and caregivers in their moments of need.
The inspiration for the garden is personal for both Jen and Catherine. Jen spent time in hospital with her son Alex, who has Tuberous Sclerosis Complex and underwent brain surgery at the age of four. During that challenging period, Jen found herself without access to green spaces, which ignited her desire to create a green refuge for parents and caregivers – the often-overlooked support system that tirelessly stands by their children during difficult times.
Catherine and Jen both volunteer at NHS Amersham Hospital, where they are part of a team rejuvenating the gardens. Through this work, they have witnessed first-hand how outdoor spaces can significantly enhance the well-being of both staff and patients, underscoring the importance of green initiatives in hospital environments.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is held from the 20 – 24 May 2025 and RHS Members’ Days are on the 20 & 21 May 2025. Please do visit the garden at the show and we would absolutely love to see the photos of your visit.
As a small rare disease charity, the opportunity to be part of RHS Chelsea Flower Show is enormous and not one that we could turn down.
Sponsoring a garden will provide many boosts to the Tuberous Sclerosis Association, most importantly greater recognition of Tuberous Sclerosis Complex and the huge impact that the condition can have on people’s lives. In addition, the garden will provide greater understanding of the work of the TSA as a whole and everything that we do for the TSC community. It will also provide us with a much-needed opportunity to increase funding for the TSA, right at the start of a new ambitious three-year strategy period for the charity, in which we’re aiming to make huge leaps in support and information, research and advocacy of TSC.
TSA Tree of Dedication
Join our Room to Breathe campaign by donating towards a leaf on our dedication tree. Each leaf is a meaningful way to honour someone special—whether it’s a loved one living with TSC, a supporter, or someone you hold close to your heart.
For your donation, your chosen name or dedication will be added to a leaf of the vibrant, growing virtual tree that symbolizes connection, care, and hope for everyone affected by TSC. Every leaf represents the strength and unity of our community.
As a thank you for your support, you’ll also receive a free pack of seeds* to create your own calming green space at home. It’s a chance to reflect, connect, and grow something beautiful—just like our community. Please do send your photos and videos of you planting your seeds to sophie.blyth@tuberous-sclerosis.org and keep us up to date on how they grow! Your contribution will help the TSA continue its vital work, offering support, awareness, and hope to those living with TSC and their families. Together, we’re planting seeds of change.
