Three runners took on the incredible challenge of running 192 across the UK, in support of the TSA and two other charities. The band of friends, Chris, Jonty and Nige, called themselves ‘Chasing Change’, knowing that the money raised would help to change the lives of people affected by TSC. In total, Chasing Change raised a jaw-dropping £10,000 for their three charities!
Chris, whose Brother Rob lives with TSC, commented on their amazing journey:
‘’What a year it’s been! Our small idea, born during the lockdown in August 2020, ended on Sunday August 21st, 2021. Jonty came sailing over the finish line with Nige not far behind, I unfortunately was forced to drop out as old injuries flared up, but we saw the challenge through.
Whilst doing our bit for people and the planet, we raised £10,000 for three incredible charities.
It’s the TSA that I hold most dear. Rob, my brother, has suffered from Tuberous Sclerosis Complex since he was 10 months old, and has grown-up with the TSA. As research and development in the field of treatment and care has grown, so too has Rob, helping him to live, where possible, a fulfilling life.
I’ve been part of Rob’s surgeries from the beginning and can recall waiting anxiously outside of Leeds General Hospital on more than one occasion to await the result of brain surgery, kidney surgery, the application of his shunt and further procedures. But, as a result, he continues to live on, to thrive where he can and to remain forever resilient to the challenges he faces as a result of his condition.
Rob, although healthy in his own way, was unable to make the event. As we were travelling to St Bees to begin the race, we received a call informing us that Rob was admitted to hospital. It’s been a while since a prolonged seizure has taken hold of Rob, leading to a visit to hospital, and this time it sat heavy on my mind. Giving me an event greater drive to take on the Chasing Change challenge, with the knowledge that Rob and many like him suffer on a daily basis with this horrible condition.
Regardless of Rob’s absence we celebrated in his honour and of course championed the two other charities we set out to support. To date we have raised £10,000 and continue to see the donations rolling in. But, this isn’t the end for Chasing Change and we will continue to support the TSA in the future.’’
After six days of running the equivalent of an Ultra marathon, back to back, the Chasing Change team members arrived on the east coast, 192 miles away from where they began!
The TSA would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to everyone involved in this event – donors, runners, family and friends (including acting as support staff) and Rob, the inspiration for this achievement!
