SUMMARY:Virtual event: A values-based approach to improving mental health (ACT) in TSC
DESCRIPTION:TSC and mental health: A values-based approach to improving mental health (ACT)\n \nIn the webinar\, Dr Jennifer Black (Clinical Psychologist\, Bristol Royal Hospital for Children) will introduce skills that allow you to deal with difficult thoughts and feelings\, so they have less of an influence over you. \nLiving with a long-term physical health condition can have a significant impact on emotional wellbeing and quality of life. This webinar will focus on how people living with TSC can be supported to live well alongside ongoing health problems. It will focus on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)\, a type of talking therapy that encourages openness to and awareness of the present moment in order to help people maintain behaviours consistent with their life goals. \nACT fosters engagement with\, rather than avoidance of\, painful experiences to move towards acceptance of unchangeable difficulties alongside building a rich and meaningful life despite the presence of ongoing difficulties.
