Tea & SCones for TSC

Get baking to raise funds and support people living with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex

Tea & SCones for TSC!

Get your oven gloves ready and the kettle boiling and organise a tea party for TSC!

It’s really easy to get involved – it’s all about drinking tea, eating scones (or any treats you fancy!) and sharing information about TSC and the TSA with your family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, team mates, school friends, club or society pals. At the same time, you will be helping us raise much needed funds so the TSA can continue our vital work.

Saturday 15 May 2021 is TSC Global Awareness Day, and we want you to mark the occasion by getting family, friends and colleagues involved in a Tea & SCones for TSC event in person or virtually!

Remember that you can do a Tea & SCones event at any time, so don’t worry if you can’t make that day. Let’s get Tea & SCones for TSC happening all around the world!

Hosting your first Tea & SCones event?

A great way to rasie some money at your event is to host a Cuppa Quiz.  Short on time , don’t worry we’ve got together with some members of the TSC community to create a ready made quiz  for your Tea & SCones event!

Whether you’re hosting an event in-person (in line with social distance guidelines) or virtually, you can gather your guests for a quiz! For full details download our Cuppa Quiz Guide. A huge thank you to those in the TSA Outlook group who helped us with the quiz – you can find more about the TSA’s community groups, including Outlook, here.

Why Tea & SCones for TSC is so important

The money that you raise through fundraising opportunities like Tea & SCones for TSC helps us to improve the lives of people affected by TSC. This includes funding things like direct support, research, campaigning and advocacy. Your fundraising efforts are vital, to help us to continue our work.

How to get involved in Tea & SCones for TSC 2021

  • Plan your event. You can hold your event in person (if local guidelines allow) or virtually

  • Let loved ones know what you’re doing, and get them involved! You can tell them why you’re doing it too – to help the TSA continue our work to improve the lives of people in the TSC community

  • Get fundraising! There are lots of ways to do this, like opening a page on JustGiving* or starting a Facebook fundraiser*, asking people to donate to join the event or have an entry fee for the quiz!

  • On the big day, grab your baked goods (or even just a cuppa) and gather everyone (socially distanced or virtually) whether that is in a garden, a phone call, Zoom, WhatsApp or any other platform.

Where should I hold my Tea & SCones event?

You can host your event anywhere – as long as you are following local government guidelines and restrictions. This might mean that you can host something in a garden, or even virtually through Facebook, WhatsApp or Zoom.

Socially distanced event – Download our fundraising guide with some top tips, but we ask everyone to make sure they follow local guidelines around social distancing.

Virtual Tea and SCones event – Download our fundraising guide on how to make your virtual event a success – and even better when everyone does their own washing up!

What if I don’t have time to put on a big event?

Your Tea & SCones for TSC event can be as big or small as you like. Whether you have something that lasts a full day, packed with multiple bakes and things like drawing pictures and other creative things for the kids, or a quick picture posted of an afternoon sweet treat that you are dedicating to the TSC community.

If it works for you, it will work for Tea & SCones for TSC.

When does Tea & SCones for TSC take place?

The official date for Tea & SCones for TSC is 15 May 2021, as this is Global TSC Awareness Day. But don’t worry if you can’t make this date – you can host a Tea & SCones event at any time of the year.

I’m not able to hold an event this year, can I just make a donation?

Of course! Simply visit  the official Tea & SCones for TSC JustGiving page and click ‘Give now’ to donate to the Tea & SCones for TSC appeal. Alternatively, visit www.tuberous-sclerosis.org/donate for other ways to kindly give to the TSA.

What if I’m not a good baker?

We’ve got some tasty and easy to follow recipes for baking up some lovely scones (including a ketogenic-friendly version) here.

But don’t worry, it’s not about giving the British Bakeoff a run for its money. If you don’t fancy baking scones or anything else, you could just pop to the shop and get some pre-made treats.

Even a cup of tea with some biscuits or a fruit salad is enough – the event is all about raising awareness of TSC and funds for the TSA, not who is the best baker.

The difference that Tea & SCones for TSC can make

Sheila, whose granddaughter Mia lives with TSC, explains why Tea & SCones for TSC is so important:

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who is holding a Tea & SCones for TSC event.

The vital money raised from TSA campaigns like this goes towards research into TSC to help people living with the condition. People like my 12 year-old granddaughter, Mia. I would urge everyone to please generously give their time and money to support Tea & SCones for TSC.

Remember that Tea & SCones for TSC events can take place in many different places and situations. I used to be a nurse before I retired and would hold Tea and SCones events in our coffee room. The family held our own Tea & SCones for TSC party on the day of the royal wedding. We had the TV on and Mia dressed up – we had to call her Princess Meghan all day. It was hilarious!

Again, thank you from me and Mia. What you are doing makes all the difference.”
